The Face, №23
The Face was a British music, fashion, and culture magazine that achieved iconic status for its innovative and influential approach to covering youth culture.
This is the magazine that introduced the world to Kate Moss — thanks to that iconic editorial shot by Corinne Day. The Face was among the few bold enough to put David Bowie on the cover in a women’s dress with a bare chest (November 1980) or Kurt Cobain in a floral dress (September 1993) — long before the fashion industry began talking about agender style. In 2004, the magazine closed due to a lack of funding.
The Face was relaunched in 2019, led by Dan Flower (who previously launched Pop magazine with Katie Grand) and editor-in-chief Stuart Brumfitt, known for his work with i-D, Dazed, W Magazine, The Guardian, and Esquire. A new team with a new vision for a new age, but proudly retaining the magazine’s founding vision and core principals.
