Hélène Fleiss and Olivier Zahm founded Purple Prose in 1992 as a counterpoint to the mindless glossy magazines of the ’80s. Purple Fashion first appeared in the mid-’90s as its supplement, and in 2004 evolved into an independent magazine. The main criterion for selecting content is the founders’ personal taste, which has nothing to do with glamorous fashion — something you can easily see in the magazine’s website diary section, where even society chronicles by Olivier Zahm turn into cheerful trash.
