I-D #377
The British magazine i-D was founded in 1980 by Terry Jones, a designer and former art director at Vogue. The first issue of i-D was a handmade fanzine, with text typed on a typewriter. The magazine is renowned for its innovative approach to photography and typography. Over the years, i-D has established itself as a “training ground” for emerging talent. Photographers such as Nick Knight, Ellen von Unwerth, Juergen Teller, Terry Richardson and many others have contributed to the magazine. The magazine’s logo is a winking smiley face, which is why models on its covers traditionally have their right eye closed.
i-D celebrates mothers, mother figures, motherlovers, and everyone else responsible for making us who we are today with “The Mother Issue” for Fall 2026.
